Google AdWords - are they serious or am I understanding this incorrectly?

Just opened a forum based website, and heard google adwords was a good way to drive traffic in. I was almost finished setting up my account when i read some fine print.It says you can set a monthly budget of, say, $50. Monthly budget should mean that once you hit $50 - your ads stop.But upon further reading, they make it sound like once you hit $50, you're new budget is automatically bumped up a 'level' to $250 - and the worst part is, you WON'T be notified?Am I way off base here or is this correct? I got the same understanding that you did. If you get more clicks they raise it up for the next bill cycle.
