Default If I download the latest driver for my graphics card, do I have to uninstall the

current one first? I am trying to install the latest driver for my NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT. I downloaded it and ran it and it said it had been installed but when I went into the device manager and looked it says it is using a driver that came out last year, whereas the one I just downloaded from Dell's website only came out in April (last week) Have I not installed it correctly? and do I need to uninstall the other one first? I'm worried I'll mess the computer up by installing things. I am not that great at technical things.Oops, I meant mess the computer up by uninstalling things. It says its an advanced thing to do.I did reboot the computer but it's still saying it's using the old one.

Check the website of the manufacturer, most suggest that you do to avoid conflicts.

Technically speaking, when you install a new driver or update a piece of software, you should always uninstall the earlier one first so that the PC picks it up and there is no conflicts with the old one. However, it sometimes doesn't make any difference as the old driver is picked up by the new install and runs as if it wasn't changed.Check to see the settings in your display by right clicking the desktop and choosing "display settings". You'll soon see what driver you have there as well. If your graphics is working perfectly well then have no worries.Anyway, it might be that the driver signing for the old one is the same as the new one you downloaded and so it wouldn't make any difference. Finally, if you are not satisfied, just uninstall the driver set up now and reinstall the new one again. Use the device manager to do this and remember to reboot each time you do something. It should work fine.
