This question has been bothering me for a few weeks now. I own a Xbox 360 and am wanting to buy a Ps3. I think my 360's graphics are fine on the SD, but I've heard the Ps3 only looks good on Hd's. I don't think this is 100% true, but I just want to know if the graphics will still look good on a SDTV. If they don't, what kind of HDTV should I get? I can't just spend $3,000 dollars on one though cause I wanna get a ps3 too. So a reasonably priced one would be good. Any help would be appreciated.

I own a ps3, and have several friend that own 360's, even a couple friends with both. The graphics both look about the same on SDTV's. For example, COD4 would look almost identical. Unless you buy poorly made games, it will still have really good graphics. I'm also thinking of getting an HDTV, but i'm kinda poor lol. If you go to www.frys.com, they have really good deals on electronics. Also at bestbuy, they have an offer (not sure if it's still going on) where you can get like a 40" HDTV, a PS3, and free Geek Squad installation in a bundle, and it's really cheap. Hope that helps.

Mine looked great back when I had a sdtv. Resolution is not the only factor in game quality, in fact it's not even half or even a third of how good it looks visually. There are many other things like modeling, framerate, lighting, animations, textures, that make a game good, and ps3 does all those things extremely well. I remember I thought the detail in resistance fall of man was incredible on my regular tv. Huge difference compared to ps2.It is still worthwhile to get an hdtv though. They will make the graphics go from good to better. You don't have to spend $3000 to get a good HDTV, all the basic parts of a good HDTV total under $1000, from there the increase in quality is small, maybe 10% to 20% better for every $1000 after the first $1000. Except that they're bigger too, but unless it's gonna be in your basement and be watched by 10 people at once, that's a moot point. For a single room, a 27 to 32 inch lcd is ideal. It doesn't have to be 1080p to look good, if you're willing to settle for a 720p tv with 1080i capability you'll save several hundred. $500 would get a fine HDTV if you look around.
