Default Can I Change Graphics Cards?

ok i dont really know much bout computers,i can change simple things like RAM and CD/DVD Drives , but i am not realy sure about changing my graphics card.. i want to upgrade and i have found a decent one; XFX GeForce 8400 GS 512MB DDR2 PCI-E Graphics Cardit may be good or bad but i would be happy with it because it is fairly cheap ..only 39.99.at the moment my computer tells me it is running this;MS-StarForce GeForce4 MX 440/MX 440SE Series (Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440/MX 440SE)i am not sure whether the new graphics card i stated earlier would fit, or how to fit it. I am currently using my grandad's old computer, so it is a fairly old model of computer.. i have managed to get it up to 1GB RAM, and will soon be increasing that, BUT i am not sure how to change the graphics card, or if i should ask a technicianI am not sure which model of computer i am using, and all it says on the casing is 'Aries PC Systems'.if anybody has any answers, they will be appreciated

The guide shows you how to change a graphics card this may sound difficult but this is very very simple. Do note this is not the one if you have a on board. To read the on board version then check my profile for it and one more thing if you live in the UK then check out aria.co.uk this is a good website for software's and compoments.

For this change its strongly recommended to you , to know if you Mainboard have PCI-E slot. You old video card is not on PCI-E slot and dont have this captability (i use the same MX440 before 2 years). So , see in the Mainboard manual or search its model in Google. If you see PCI-E .... you can run it (the new video card).

upgrading your video card should be possiable. you may want to go to nvidias site to varify it but i dont see why it shouldnt be able to. unless your motherboard cant handle it. to change the card, turn of the PC, unplug it, make sure your grounded to the PC by holding the side of it or the use of an anti static wrist strap, unscrew, hook whatever the graphics card and simply lift it strait out. there may be a clip holding it in but that shouldnt be hard to find if there is. to install the new one, make sure there is enough room. some cards require two spaces because its so epic, such as mine. also, make sure your power suply can handle it.

It all depends on the motherboard and what kind of Graphics card slot you have. Your best bet would be to go to Best Buy's Geek squad and have them install the hardware for free as long as you purchase the card from them

first if you don't know your bustype( pci-e/ pci / agp) then if you do have a pci-e all you do is unscrew the plate on the back of the computer for the graphics card then just push the new graphics card into the slot then put the screw on.

NO, it is NOT possible for you to upgrade to a PCI-e card without buying new motherboard/cpu/ram and practically a whole new computer. The Geforce 4 series is PCI/AGP only, no PCI-e.And the 8400 is a really low end card, but it's far better than your 4 series card, which is really old.
