The best "bang-for-the-buck" card out today hands down is the ATI 4850.

9800 GTX has a newer version for same price called 9800 gtx+ which would be best bet since its AMAZING. After that the 4850 for it has good memory bandwidth. Then the 8800 gts for it has a newer core and has dual slot cooling. Then the 8800 gt which is best bang for buck since its performance is amazing for price. Also, buy EVGA for nvidia cards and visiontek for ati cards

In most cases the 9800gtx will be the faster card, although this is minimal considering that the 8800gts512 is exactly the same core, streaming proc's, etc and will be cheaper and this will depend on the game in question as some games scale better across Nvidia/ATI chips and vice-versa. This is of course has to be tempered with the fact that for the money the 4850 is a pretty vicious card....i owned an 8800gts512 and it definately got the job done. 1. tie=4850 & 9800gtx2. 8800gts 512mb3. 8800gtremember that these cards are seperated by mere frames per second in most games.....hard choice!!!! 9800gtx+ while a good card, isnt worth the extra loot over a regular 9800gtx.....at least not according to toms.....
