I would suggest an apple ibook for a college student. It's really a more complete package without getting too complicated. Microsoft vista, it's current operating system isn't really that good and it slows down laptop computer that aren't top spec..

microsoft is best for multimedia and games and stuff, but mac is useful becoz ALL macs have wireless net and they r useful plus they wont be cluttered much as far as i know---------------------------------------------------------------------also vista has many problems and programs take up much too much ram which will slow the system ALOT! AND I MEAN ALOT!

windows are more software compatible, but if she wants to spend most of her time fighting trojans and viruses then go with windows, Macs are alot neater and more fun to play with,, and guess what no viruses,,,a bit expensive but all worth it,,,Macs are like the lamborgini of computers while pc's are you typical everyday sedan on the road, everyone has one.

Windows would provide better compatibility of software with other users and have a large range of games software. For productivity a mac wins every time. Your daughter will not have to worry about things like drivers, maintenance, and complicated setup of networking, as macs do this stuff quietly in the background. She can get the latest version of Microsoft Office for mac at a very reasonable price and the provided lifestyle software is top class.Despite what some posters say Windows is not better for media. if you go into any creative media business (music, photography, video) you will likely see macs dominate their computer landscape.

Macs:-(Legally) Have to be built by Apple-Not all use standard parts-All come with Mac OS-A bit more expensive-usually have to be repaired and upgraded through ApplePCs:-Can be built by anyone who knows how-Usually come with Windows, sometimes with Linux or similar OS's. Some even come without and operating system-Cost a bit less than a Mac of the same specs-Standard parts, easily upgradeable, and self-serviceableIt doesn't matter whether you use a Mac or a PC, it's the operating system you run. In my opinion, Mac OS X and Windows both suck. Which is why I use Linux (Which is completely free and will run on both Macs and PCs.)In my opinion, you have a lot more freedom with PC's which is why I prefer them. But if you want some company to do everything for you, then a Mac would be better for you.
