mac os x is the only way to go!microsoft windows program their computers with viruses that will activate in a few years time. so you have to buy a whole new console. (marketing scheme)they are also very vulnerable to catching viruses whenever you are hooked onto the web. it does not matter if you have virus protectionthere is not one known virus that can affect a mac. maybe one back in the 90's but viruses are not designed for macs. they cannot even penetrate its fire wallsi have a powerbook g4 from 2003 that still runs like the first day i got iti also have a newer black macbook and it is just PERFECTi would never buy a windows computer. macs will last you forever. and if you are into music/arts this is the computer for you. you can also have all the microsoft documents uploaded to your computer (just like mine and it runs perfect)

Well in my experience of using both Macintosh and Windows computers if you want to do photo/ video editing, graphic design with photoshop or even music editing Macintosh is brilliant but if as you said using them for a general purporse computer they will make you want to claw your own eyeballs out. For general computers get one with Windows Vista. It also doesnt hurt to upgrade to Vista ultimate. If you want to use the Windows computer for film editing of whatever you can still just buy some new software.

In my opinion, it would be better for you to get a vistas or xp, seeing how vista is still a bit buggy. Windows OS may get more viruses than macs, but you don't have to worry as long as you have a good anti-virus program, and if your comp is infected, there's always the option of system restores. Macs aren't really the best choice, it's mostly for important business seeing how it's almost free of all viruses. Unless you're writing a really important document, you don't really need a mac. Macs also can't play most games and it's not recommended if you want to play most of the games out there. Windows vista is compatible with most programs and would be the best choice to get with the things you need a computer for.
