Default My computer can't operate "Microsoft Word". Help, please?

"The operating system is not presently configured to run this application"That's the message that pops up whenever I try opening up Microsoft Word. I've cleared my computer of viruses and, despite help from others, I've had trouble solving the problem. So any logical answers would be appreciated. And 10 points is DEFINITELY going out to the first person who gives me a solid solution. Thanks.WIndows XPOffice...no idea, sorry

The first thing I would do would be to put the software disk back into the computer.Chances are the software didn't install properly. If that doesn't work, contact Microsoft and ask them. The experts always have the best advice.

uninstall any older version, restart computer, instal the new Microsoft Word (choose Custom), then restart computer again. Microsoft does not work in Linux, you should have windows

Best I found on the internet was this: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win98/t1075148814 . There were also a few other sites mentioning the event log. So I suggest doing what the person suggested - run a checkdisk, then repair windows. To run a check/scan disk:Click on Start >> My ComputerRight click on your C drive and choose PropertiesSwitch to the Tools tab.You should see an "Error Checking" section with a button saying check now. Click this button.Check the "Automatically fix..." box and start the scan.Once it's finished, follow the same steps (2-5) for your D drive too.Now we can repair Windows. Easiest way to do this is to reinsert your Office CD. Proceed through the setup until you get to screen asking you what type of install you would like. There should be an option for repair. Select this then follow the instructions on the screen.

This may or may not help - I am not an IT genius. My parents only have "Microsoft Works" installed on their computer, for example. They get all kinds of error messages when trying to "run Word". But, if I e-mail them a Word document, they actually CAN open it. That is the only way that they can open and utilize word. Then, from that document, they can create Word documents (not by "creating new", but rather by erasing everything and then typing and then saving it as a new document altogether). I hope this helps.
