Open office is free, if you just want to write letters but not view anything complicated people send you, it'll do the job. Also look on your computer for wordpad which is more basic but will let you write letters.

You can download and install Open Office, for free. It is a free program similar to Microsoft Office. It has a word processor, spread sheet (like Excel), etc. The best part, it is FREE.The home page is http://www.openoffice.org/The download for the English language version is found at http://download.openoffice.org/2.2.1/index.htmlGood luck.

If your computer has Windows, look in Accessories for a program called Wordpad, it's a basic word processor and will be fine for just writing letters. It comes free with the operating system. You can also use notepad but it has less formatting buit in.
