Default is it possible to schedule a c-section with your first pregnancy?

i'm not pregnant now, but i have a huge fear of giving birth and i'd much rather just be knocked out and have the baby cut out of me lol.. people have told me that doctors won't do this with a woman's first baby unless she's unable to deliver naturally. is this true? if it's my baby and my body why can't i do it the way that i want!?

you should be able to, its called an elective c/section but before making any decisions look at the pro's and con's between the two

first of all you are awake for a c-sectionand unless there is a medical reason to do it an elective c-section cost about $20 000 or more and is not coverd by health care

Most doctor's won't do a major surgery just because you don't want to give birth vaginally. There are huge risks involved with a c-section, as well as more pain (after the fact) and a longer recovery time). And they usually don't know you out - you're awake for the whole thing, just numb - exactly like if you had an epidural during a vaginal birth. Also, insurance cover a c-section unless it is medically needed. And if you are paying for it yourself, it's much more expensive.

Even if you did find a Dr that would give you an elective c-section, they WILL NOT knock you out. General anesthesia is only used in very dire emergencies in obstetrics because of the risk it causes to both mom AND baby (the baby is basically put to sleep too). You would be given an epidural or a spinal.I would suggest you read as much as you can on pregnancy and childbirth before you have a child. Child birth is not as scary as people make it out to be. Childbirth Without Fear is a great book on this subject.

a c-section is major surgery, and remember that you are not knocked out you are just numb.some have a hard time recovering after the c-section too. Most doctors will not plan in the first pregnancy to do a c-section, and you may find that the insurance company may not pay for it.Good luck and it is not as bad as you are fearing.

Yeah the first time the doctors make that decision on weather or not you have a c-section. If they feel you cant deliver the baby due to size ect. they will schedule a c-section....

Your not knocked out, your numb thats about it.and no most doctors will not allow you to have an elective c section, it is major abdominal surgery and puts you and the baby at a higher risk than a normal vaginal birth does. Also a c section might seem like the easier way, and for the delivery Im sure it is but it takes 6 weeks to heal after a c section and its not pleasant, my sister has had both types of birth and for weeks after her c section she couldnt do anything, not even drive and using the bathroom (pooping) was dreadful for her because of the pushing.I think you should google the pros and cons of a c ***tion before deciding you really want one!But like I and other people have said, most doctors will not allow you to choose this method. And to the person who answered saying it is 20,000 for a c section and is not covered, that depends on where you live.In Canada we have free healthcare and a c section does not cost anything, neither does a vaginal birth.
