Yes, whatever you are licenced to drive in the UK you can drive the same classes in any EU country. Most other countries also have an agreement to honour your licence also but for these you may need an additional permit. If you are intending to live in Italy you will probably have to exchange your licence for an Italian issued one but it will cover the groups that your UK licence covers without the need for another driving test.
