connecting a database to an asp page.?

i cant show the contents of a sql database on an asp page and also i cant even connect to an sql database throw the asp page,i think the problem is about the database or the connection string.i had tried some available samples but with an access database,and i do the procedure for a sql database,step by step but it didnt work.for example http://www.asp101.com/samples/download/login_db.zip this sample didnt work for both access and sql database!can anyone tell me what's wrong with my job?
