Default if i got a C (77.9) my freshman year in algebra, will i never get into a good...

...college like the U of I? i'm going to work much harder next semester, that was my first and my last C ever, do you think it will effect my chances of going to the University of Illinois in the future? do you have to get straight A's all through high school?

Speak to an enrollment specialist at your school AND at U of I. They can help you get an idea of what GPA you should aim for in highschool in order to get into U of I.

Get some SAT scores up.The algebra, it depends on your major. If its something like engineering, physics, technology related < then its practically a good time to start...

You wouldn't say 'effect' my chances, you would say 'affect' my chances. You need to learn to distinguish between effect and affect. Working hard is good. Just work hard and the grades will take care of themselves, to paraphrase Ben Franklin and his money quote. I'm sure you will get into U. of I. if you work hard starting this semester and keep it up.Also, read for 1 hour minimum every night at bedtime. Read fun fiction books like fantasy (Tamora Pierce) or whatever you like. It will PAY OFF ON YOUR COLLEGE BOARDS. If you really want to get into U. of I., start reading tonight. Go to the library and get 8 novels and go to bed one hour earlier and read that entire hour. Do this every night until you graduate from high school. My kid got 800 on critical reading part of the SAT because she reads fun fiction constantly. you DO NOT have to read boring books to develop a great vocabulary and enhance your reading comprehension. Read light and funny novels starting now, because it will take a couple of years for you to improve.Best wishes, sweetie!

Dont believe all the hype! your grades dont have to be perfect to get into a good school! believe me, i made a d in algebra my freshman year but now im a bio major at a great university! you just need to focus on increasing your math skills and scores. you'll do just fine but try not to make anymore c's because it is really hard to pull your gpa up! good luck!

You can tell them that you made a mistake and like the most of us when we were freshman we screwed around tell them that you realised you had to do better, but yeah get all a's for the rest of school

While I am not familiar with U of I's requirements, most colleges only look at sophomore and junior grades. If you can guarantee that that is the only C you receive and raise your math grades after this only C, it should not affect your admission chances too badly.
