What is the best way to SEO your site? ?

Hi, I have recently reformatted my site and would like some help on how to best SEO it. There are loads of companies out there selling backlinks, promotion, traffic and all sorts of 'Page Rank gaining' opportunities, but I don't know which ones would harm my site and which would help it. If anyone could take a look at it www.biggainsnopains.co.uk and let me know any suggestions, that would be fantastic! As a recent graduate with finances strapped, I cannot pour money into advertising as I would like, but would appreciate an easy method to increase my PR from 0 to at least 3/4.
