How to list files in a web-server directory?

I have several directories on my web-server, each containing 600+ files. Is there any way I can run some command to make a list of these files in a simple .txt file? Or, if I download the directories... is there a way to make Excel put all of these into a spreadsheet type list? I did it all by hand a few years ago, but those lists were lost in a HDD crash. Any help is appreciated.It is not on a Windows server. The server is remote and I cannot run commands on it.
