How do I remove web messenger,and directory entries, not just turn it off?

I do not use any messenger program, and have avoided having any messenger program installed on my computer. Now, Yahoo has piggybacked a messenger onto Yahoo Mail and apparently posted my identity on a directory somewhere because I am getting spam. I don't want to just turn this off. I want to permanently remove it, make it impossible for someone to attempt to message me, and remove my identity from whatever directory or search that it has been posted on. I use Yahoo mail a great deal, but if I can't get rid of the messenger, I will walk and set up email elsewhere.

it should be in the list of add or remove programs in the control panel. just click on remove and it will uninstall completely.
