...site withotut ftp? I would like to build a java applet that displays a slideshow of photos in a directory. Is there a way to discover, using client-side code, the contents of a directory on a server so that all the owner of a site would need to do is to add the photos? The applet would simply look at the web site folder and display the photos.Can this be done, or do I need something other than a client-side java applet? Is the only way to do this to list the photos individually in an array, meaning that I would have to either rename photos, modify the code, or keep the number of photos constant, etc

I would probably recommend not having the user the ability to look within your directory structure. Then that opens your server for some security gaps. As you indicated I would list the photos individually but you can get fancy with it. I would keep them all the same name and just increment the file numbers such as Photo1, Photo2, Photo3, Photo4, etc. then you could loop through your code but just add the number of the file on the end. I mean you could do your request but it seems like too much of a security gap to me in my opinion.

You might try searching at hotscripts.com - there is a software called emAlbumPro that I think will handle this for you.
